Internal cooperation in Estonia
LABRIS takes part in the work of the ‘Food’ technical committee of the Estonian Centre for Standardisation and Accreditation (EVS). The scope of the EVS/TK1 technical committee includes, among other things, issues related to standardisation which involve the analysis of food products, sampling, analysis and horizontal methods, and safety of the supply chain.
LABRIS is also a member of the advisory committee of the Estonian Accreditation Centre (EAK). The advisory committee was established to advise the Estonian accreditation authority in the issues and operations related to compliance assessment and accreditation.
International cooperation
LABRIS is included in the Nordic-Baltic Committee on Food Analysis (NMKL) and our experts contribute to the work of the NMKL microbiology working group.
The purpose of the work of the NMKL is to standardise and validate the microbiological, chemical, and sensory analysis methods used for the inspection of the compliance of food and the respective guidelines. The NordVal International validation organisation is also operating under the NMKL.
LABRIS is providing data to the ‘One Health’ database of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). The database contains sequences obtained by the whole genome sequencing of food-borne pathogens with the epidemiological data of isolates. The database enables to find matches between the pathogens found in the food delivery chain and from people in cooperation with the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). The user-friendly interface of the database allows to manage data and perform the required analyses relatively easily.
LABRIS is also cooperating tightly on a daily basis with the leading food safety authorities of neighbouring countries, which, in turn, allows to involve additional knowledge for development and offer a wide portfolio of services to the customers.
The laboratories of the Finnish Food Authority (Ruokavirasto) perform various different laboratory diagnostics analyses of animal and plant diseases and laboratory analyses of food, feed, and fertilisers. The laboratories also provide the expert services related to these issues.
The BIOR institute in Latvia is a research centre of national importance which develops novel research methods and creates new knowledge applicable in practice in the following fields of research: public health and environmental health, food, fishery, and veterinary medicine.
The National Food and Veterinary Risk Assessment Institute of Lithuania (Nacionalis Maisto ir Veterinarijos Rizikos Vertinimo Institutas, NMVRVI) provides scientific and technical assistance in the fields of food safety and veterinary medicine, performs the duties of the national reference laboratory, and conducts laboratory analyses in the fields of food and feed safety and quality and animal health.
