LABRIS has been granted the status of an official laboratory on the basis of the following legislation:
- the Food Act (microbiological and chemical indicators);
- the Feed Act (microbiological and chemical indicators);
- the Plant Protection Act (chemical indicators).
The Minister of Agriculture has also authorised LABRIS on the basis of the Alcohol Act for the following:
- for conducting alcohol surveillance analyses;
- for conducting the analyses required for the registration of alcohol.
A laboratory operating as an official laboratory must be compliant with the following criteria:
- the laboratory has the skills, equipment, and infrastructure required for conducting analyses;
- the laboratory employs staff with suitable qualifications and experience;
- the laboratory ensures that samples are tested impartially and there are no conflicts of interest in performing the duties of the laboratory;
- the laboratory has been accredited by a national accreditation centre pursuant to EVS EN ISO/IEC 17025;
- only accredited analysis techniques may be included in the scope of the authorisation;
- the laboratories participate in proficiency tests and make the results accessible for the competent authority;
- the laboratory must immediately notify the competent authority if the results of the samples collected in the course of official controls indicate risks to the health of humans, animals, or plants or, in the case of plant protection products, environmental risks.
